On the occasion of the solo exhibition Cai Guo-Qiang: The Ninth Wave, presented at the Power Station of Art in Shanghai in 2014, Cai created the gunpowder painting The Bund Without Us No. 2, which reimagines the Bund overtaken by nature. The artwork was auctioned for charity at the Asian Cultural Council’s (ACC) 50th anniversary event in Shanghai in October 2014, with proceeds supporting the continuation of the ACC Cai Fellowship. This fellowship enables two Chinese artists each year to participate in individually tailored six-month programs in the United States.
