Charity Auction in Support of Sichuan

May 2008

In response to the devastating Sichuan Earthquake on May 12, 2008, Cai Guo-Qiang contributed to disaster relief through a donation organized by www.ionly.com.cn and China Guardian Auctions Co., Ltd. The program, Together We Pull Through—Chinese Contemporary Art Community Disaster Relief Charity Auction, invited nearly 200 contemporary artists from China and abroad to donate works.

The auction was held from May 25 to 27, 2008, at the Beijing Kerry Center. It featured Cai’s gunpowder drawing Crocodile from the Sky: Project for the Metropolitan Museum of Art, created for his 2006 exhibition Transparent Monument at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. All proceeds were donated to support victims in the earthquake-affected areas.
