Leading Contemporary Chinese Artists Join Forces to Hold Charity Auction for Haiti after Devastating Earthquake

In an effort initiated by internationally renowned and influential contemporary artist Cai Guo-Qiang, more than 20 well-known contemporary artists quickly responded by donating a total of over 30 significant and representative works.

Participating artists include: Zhu Jinshi, Wang Jianwei, Zhan Wang, Sui Jianguo, Wang Jinsong, Chen Danqing, Hong Hao, Xu Zhen, Zeng Fanzhi, Cui Yiwen, Qiu Xiaofei, Xu Bing, Yu Gao, Zhang Wei, Wang Mingxian, Li Zhanyang, Chen Qingqing, Wang Huaxiang, Xiaolu, Yang Peijiang, Zhang Dali, Cangxin, Liu Xiaodong, Miao Xiaochun, Deng Jianjin, Shi Jinsong, He Sen, Liang Shuo, Yang Zhenzhong, Liu Wenling, Liu Jianzhao, Qiu Zhijie

 

Grantees include:

Collaborating with  Cornell University’s School of Continuing Education  (http://www.sce.cornell.edu/  ) and other departments a new endowment was established called the Mingitan Fund for Haiti’s Tomorrow ( Mingtian Fund )

In Dialogue with Young Artists: ACC Alumni Talk

On the occasion of ART HK 12, the eminent visual artist Cai Guo-Qiang’s latest visit to Hong Kong included an informal talk at the ACC Hong Kong office on the afternoon of Friday, the 18th of May. Cai Guo-Qiang Donates Artwork to Establish ACC Cai Fellowship Program

The eminent Chinese artist Cai Guo-Qiang has generously donated one of his large-scale gunpowder drawings: “Marx’s Moustache” to the Asian Cultural Council (ACC) for a fundraising auction to support ACC’s work in cultural exchange and its next generation of grantees. As a 1995 ACC fellowship recipient, Cai and ACC have sustained a mutually supportive relationship over the years through a shared belief in the endless possibilities that can emerge when artists, thinkers, and world-changers from different cultures meet…. Cai Guo-Qiang Donates Award Monies to ACC

NEW YORK, New York, April 15, 2013–

Cai Guo-Qiang, whose gunpowder paintings have been performed and exhibited around the globe, has given half of his award earnings from the prestigious Praemium Imperiale Award—informally known as the Nobel Prize of the Arts, to the Asian Cultural Council (ACC). Mr. Cai will donate the other half of his award earnings to support the building of SMoCA, the Snake Museum of Contemporary Art, a new museum and project to assist in the rebuilding efforts in Iwaki, Fukushima Prefecture after the devastation following the Great East Earthquake on March 11, 2011… [learn more]
